The Beacon Theatre presents Romeo & Julian, a bold, modern queer retelling of the William Shakespeare classic. Running February 12–22, 2026 at the Cox Playhouse in Plano, TX, Romeo & Julian follows the sons of two Southern Baptist pastors in the small town of Verona, TX, where being gay is seen as the worst offense.

In this contemporary twist, the rivals find unexpected solace in each other and in a found family, led by the fabulous drag mother, Mother Lawrence, who they discovered at a secret queer club, "The Church," where other lost souls seek refuge. This modern day adaptation stays true to Shakespearean language while updating appearance, themes, and context to tell the story you know and love through a fresh and powerful lens.
